Our Team Philosophy...The Winkler Barracudas are believers in the True Sport Principles:
Go For It. Play Fair. Respect Others. Stay Healthy. Have Fun. Include Everyone. Give Back. Our Program...The Winkler Barracudas are a competitive swim team that takes part in Swim Manitoba's Summer Grand Prix league. We begin swimming practices in late May each year and compete in swim meets across Manitoba beginning in early July and culminating with the Grand Prix Championships in late August. Swim meets consist of races in front crawl, back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, and medleys (all four strokes). We practice three days a week with our June practices having all our members in the pool together, and July and August see our group split into two practice sessions based on the group's needs in any particular season. At competitions, swimmers are grouped by gender into age categories consisting of 8 & Under, 9 & 10 year olds, 11 & 12 year olds, 13 & 14 year olds, and 15 & Over. Ages for competition are based on a swimmer's birth year.
Expectations...Our team is a competitive club that competes against other swim clubs from rural Manitoba. As such, each swimmer is expected to be able to complete a minimum of 50 m (1 lap of the deep end in the Winkler pool) of continuous swimming in addition to having built skills from taking swim lessons prior to joining the team. We encourage swimmers to attend all meets, but expect each participates in at least 3. We also encourage swimmers to enter the maximum of 4 races with coaches assisting with race selections. Parents are responsible for transportation to and from swim meets. Fees and fundraising expectations can vary from year to year. Please contact team management for more information.
